Accused child molester Roy Moore leads Alabama Senate race after losing to Doug Jones in 2017
Voters in Alabama say they will likely replace Democratic Sen. Doug Jones with accused child molester Roy Moore.

According to a Mason-Dixon survey released on Tuesday, 50% of voters say they would replace Jones with a Republican candidate, compared to 40% who want to give the incumbent another term.

GOP congressman warns fellow Republicans: Be careful messing with Ocasio-Cortez
A Kentucky Republican congressman is warning his colleagues that if they mess with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, they could be inviting trouble.

“A lot of Republicans are making a mistake picking on her,” said Rep. James Comer.
He said the Bronx congresswoman is smart, has a “movement of millennials” and that Republicans should watch closely before tangling with her. Comer’s remarks came as he co-hosted “Hey Kentucky!” on Monday night and follow Rep. Andy Barr’s decision to invite the Bronx congresswoman to come to Kentucky to tour a coal mine.

Comer’s word of caution went viral Tuesday as Ocasio-Cortez retweeted one of Comer’s remarks, adding that the “GOP’s getting scared that up close, their constituents will realize I’m fighting harder for their healthcare than their own Reps.”

“She is smart, and I think we need to be very prepared when we debate her on issues that we’re having a hard time with,” Comer said. “There’s still a future for coal but we need to make sure we’re debating the right people on that issue.”

Trump goes after Fox News for 'weird' Sanders town hall
President Donald Trump on Tuesday took a jab at Fox News one day after Sen. Bernie Sanders’ surprisingly successful town hall appearance on the president’s favorite network.

Trump said on Twitter that it was “weird” to watch the Democratic presidential candidate on the channel and characterized the town hall as the second instance of unusual behavior by the network known for its conservative bent and fervent defenses of the White House.
“So weird to watch Crazy Bernie on @FoxNews,” the president tweeted. “Not surprisingly, @BretBaier and the ‘audience’ was so smiley and nice. ... '

Trump’s Trade War With China Doesn’t Look Like a Win
Prevailing against a fast-growing country run by autocrats isn’t so easy.

Natuerlich.

License to discriminate: Religious exemption laws are trampling rights in rural America
In rural areas, many key services — including health screenings, job training, food banks, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, nursing homes, child welfare services, and more — are provided by religiously affiliated organizations. And while not inherently discriminatory, these institutions — even those which are taxpayer funded — are increasingly permitted by federal and state religious exemptions to opt out of following existing nondiscrimination laws.

Instead, these institutions are able to choose who to serve and how to serve them. In fact, rural states are far more likely to have religious exemptions laws: nearly 60 percent of rural states have some kind of religious exemption law, compared to 32 percent of urban states. LGBT older adults in rural communities are particularly vulnerable to discrimination because of the limited number of senior care facilities, many of which are religiously affiliated.

Such discrimination in housing, employment, places of public accommodation, health care, and beyond is pervasive for LGBT people, in rural and urban areas alike. In a 2017 survey by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, at least one in five LGBT people had personally been discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity when seeking housing, when applying for jobs, when it came to being paid or promoted equally, and while attending college. Roughly one in six LGBT people had personally been discriminated against when seeking medical care.

Buttigieg: Trump uses 'white guy identity politics' to divide
“By far the political movement that is most based on identity politics is Trumpism," the 37-year-old South Bend, Ind., mayor said. "It’s based on white guy identity politics. It uses race to divide the working and middle class.

“There are a lot of strategies to blame problems on people who look different or are of a different faith or even of a different sexuality or gender identity," he continued. "It’s a cynical political strategy that works in the short term but winds up weakening the whole country in the long term.”

Justice Dept. issues order denying bail to asylum seekers
hy it matters: The order, issued by Attorney General William Barr, comes as detention centers are overcrowded, and aligns with President Trump's vow to end "catch and release" at the southern border. This policy is almost certain to be challenged in court. An immigration lawyer told Axios it represents an effort by the administration to get the Supreme Court to establish what rights migrants who cross the border actually have.

"This is the Trump administration’s latest assault on people fleeing persecution and seeking refuge in the United States. Our Constitution does not allow the government to lock up asylum seekers without basic due process. We'll see the administration in court."

New Jeffrey Epstein accuser goes public; defamation lawsuit targets Dershowitz
A new victim has gone public in the Jeffrey Epstein case, filing a sworn affidavit in federal court in New York Tuesday, saying that she was sexually assaulted and her then-15-year-old sister molested by Epstein and his companion, Ghislaine Maxwell, in 1996.

Farmer’s affidavit is one of 15 exhibits attached to a defamation complaint filed in federal court in the Southern District of New York by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, against Alan Dershowitz, one of Epstein’s most vocal and powerful attorneys.

Giuffre claims in the lawsuit, as she has in past court filings, that Dershowitz, 80, knew about and participated in a sex-trafficking operation involving underage girls and run by Epstein and Maxwell, and that she was forced to have sex with Dershowitz and other prominent, wealthy men when she was underage.

Dershowitz has railed against the allegations for years, maintaining that he has never met Giuffre. He also says he has documents and other evidence that prove she is lying.

Republicans reject Democratic attempts to tighten vaccine laws
The stakes are high: The U.S. is experiencing its worst measles outbreak in decades.

Most Republicans are rejecting Democrat-led state bills to tighten childhood immunization laws in the midst of the worst measles outbreak in two decades, alarming public health experts who fear the nation could become as divided over vaccines as it is over global warming.

Democrats in six states — Colorado, Arizona, New Jersey, Washington, New York and Maine — have authored or co-sponsored bills to make it harder for parents to avoid vaccinating their school-age children, and mostly faced GOP opposition.

Lack of progress tests the limits of Trump's immigration strategy

Trump and the GOP have hammered away at an immigration status quo they say doesn't work. But Trump's proposals to fix it have been politically unviable (the wall), legally untenable (denying the right to seek asylum), economically risky (closing the border), or the cause of public moral outrage (family separation.)

So, Trump has mostly been left with grievances. And griping about a system that doesn't work can only get you so far politically.

Self-Proclaimed Prophet: God Using Donald Trump To ‘Expose Darkness And Perversion’
Jeremiah Johnson, “a gifted teacher, book author, and prophetic minister,” writes this week in Charisma magazine’s “Prophetic Insight” blog that God is using Donald Trump to speak the truth to American public.

In a post first flagged by Warren Throckmorton, Johnson likened Trump to King Cyrus, who freed Jews from captivity in Babylon, saying that the GOP presidential candidate, like Cyrus, is a spokesman for God.

And Johnson knows this for a fact because God told him so: “I was in a time of prayer several weeks ago when God began to speak to me concerning the destiny of Donald Trump in America. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, ‘Trump shall become My trumpet to the American people…. I am going to use him to expose darkness and perversion in America like never before.’”
“Just as I raised up Cyrus to fulfill My purposes and plans, so have I raised up Trump to fulfill my purposes and plans prior to the 2016 election,” God added, reportedly.

Trump Blows A Gasket And Begs Fox News To Only Let His Supporters Into Their Town Halls
Donald Trump continued to lose his mind over the Bernie Sanders town hall televised on Fox News on Monday, complaining a short time ago that his favorite “news” network didn’t allow enough of his supporters into the studio.

Shortly after his tweet complaining about the Fox News town hall audience, Trump took another shot at Bernie Sanders for the amount of taxes he paid – pretty rich for a man who has spent a lifetime using legally dubious methods to avoid paying his fair share.

Of course, what’s really bugging Trump is likely the fact that the town hall event with Bernie Sanders saw monster ratings and has gotten positive reviews since it aired.

Not to mention, the audience – which was filled with Americans of all political ideologies, not just Sanders supporters – seemed receptive to some key ideas that are being put forward by each of the 2020 Democratic candidates.

As I wrote on Monday, almost all of the members of the audience cheered when they were asked if they would support a transition from private employer-based health insurance to a government-run single-payer system.

Pete Buttigieg’s message to France sends social media into a tizzy

Just when you thought presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg’s list of talents couldn’t get any longer.
The 37-year-old Indiana mayor — a graduate of Harvard and Oxford universities, Rhodes Scholar, Afghanistan veteran and musician — sent social media ablaze Monday night when he delivered a touching message to the people of France in the wake of the Notre Dame blaze — in fluent French.
English and French are just two of seven languages that Buttigieg speaks.

“To the people of France, I would like to say that Notre Dame cathedral was like a gift to the human species,” the Democrat told a reporter from the French station BFM TV at a fundraiser in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“We share the pain, but we also thank you for this gift to civilization.”

Video of his message went viral as social media users fawned over his talents and hailed the mayor of South Bend as the next president.
By Tuesday afternoon, the clip had 3.3 million views.

“I’m crushing pretty hard on #PeteButtigieg2020 right now,” one Twitter user wrote less than a day after Buttigieg announced his candidacy for president.

Another added, “This guy keeps getting better and better.”

Quipped one fan: “Why is there even an election for goodness sake. Just give him the damn job and I’m Canadian.”

“The View” co-host Ana Navarro-Cardenas added, “Today, I saw a video clip of @PeteButtigieg playing classical piano. Another were (sic) he speaks in Spanish. And this one, were (sic) he tells Parisians, he shares their pain — in French. Just imagine having a President whose intellect exceeds that of a root vegetable … for a change.”

While Buttigieg is enjoying his time in the sun, a Emerson poll released Monday put him in third place in a national poll of 2020 contenders, behind Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, respectively.
Buttigieg is a devout Christian who is openly gay and married partner Chasten Glezman last year.
