More Americans need a 2nd job to make ends meet — and it's sending a troubling message about the economy
The Labor Department reports that 7.6 million workers held multiple jobs last month, up 2% from 7.4 million in July 2016. That's back to highs not seen in 20 years. And it should not be mistaken as a sign of healthy entrepreneurship.

"The principal reason workers hold more than one position is that no single job provides a sufficient income," Sri-Kumar adds. "In a robust economic recovery, the number of full-time workers should be rising, and the number of workers employed part-time or holding multiple jobs, should decline."
https://www.businessinsider.com/more-ame...nds-meet-2017-8

Study: Why hourly workers forced to work multiple jobs
About 38 percent of American workers earn $20 or less an hour through hourly jobs or gig work and need more hours to make ends meet, according to Snag's State of the Hourly Worker Report. Additionally, nearly half of restaurant workers (47 percent) are among this group, followed by retail workers (41 percent) and hospitality workers (38 percent), a news release said.

Additionally, nearly half of restaurant workers (47 percent) are among this group, followed by retail workers (41 percent) and hospitality workers (38 percent), a news release said.

Often for those making $20 an hour or less, the overall level of income — even when employed full time — is not enough to pay for basic living expenses. As a result, most (80 percent) of these individuals work several jobs to get enough hours of pay to cover expenses, though nearly 75 percent of those workers would far prefer to work one full-time job.
As a result, more than half (54 percent) of these workers who aren't making enough to live on are are actively searching for a better full-time job. A third (32 percent) are already working additional hours beyond full-time hours to pay their expenses.
"Hourly jobs account for nearly 60 percent of the American workforce and 94 percent of net new job growth is hourly," Snag CEO Peter Harrison said in the release. "People need to wake up. Underemployment is a big problem. It's deceiving. Most see unemployment hovering around 4 percent as a signal that Americans are well employed and thriving, but this is simply not the case."

The job juggle is real. Many Americans are balancing two, even three gigs
Many Americans who struggled to find a job several years ago are now juggling two or three.

Millennials worry that one job is not enough to make ends meet
While the side-hustle is a popular way to make extra money, for many millennials it may be more of a necessity than a choice.

65% of Americans save little or nothing—and half could end up struggling in retirement
Despite a low unemployment rate and increasing wage growth, Americans still aren't saving much. That's according to a new survey from Bankrate.com, which found that 20 percent of Americans don't save any of their annual income at all and even those who do save aren't putting away a lot.

What's keeping Americans from saving? "Expenses" was the No. 1 answer of 39 percent of respondents. Another 16 percent say they don't have a "good enough job" to be able to save, which presumably means they aren't earning enough.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/15/bankrate...or-nothing.html

67% of Americans say they’ll outlive their retirement savings—here's how many have nothing saved at all
A shocking 21 percent of Americans have nothing at all saved for the future, and another 10 percent have less than $5,000 socked away for their golden years, the study found.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/11/how-many...nt-savings.html

1 in 3 Americans have less than $5,000 saved for retirement—here's why so many people can't save
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/27/1-in-3-a...retirement.html

Only 39% of Americans have enough savings to cover a $1,000 emergency
Whether it's a broken water heater, an unexpected medical bill or a car wreck, emergencies happen to everyone. But a startling number of Americans are unprepared to cope with them, money-wise.

According to Bankrate's latest financial security index survey, 34 percent of American households experienced a major unexpected expense over the past year. However, only 39 percent of survey respondents said they would be able to cover a $1,000 setback using their savings.

Yep they lived in a good place -aber nicht "sehr reich". Eher Mittelklasse. But then she moved back to the Bronx.

"...while she worked as a bartender in Manhattan and as a waitress in a taqueria. Her mother, meanwhile, cleaned houses and drove school buses. After her father's death, Ocasio-Cortez and her mother struggled to fight foreclosure of their home."

"... Ocasio-Cortez attended Yorktown High School, graduating in 2007, where she won second prize in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair with a microbiology research project on the effect of antioxidants on C. elegans' lifespan. As a result, the International Astronomical Union named a small asteroid after her: 23238 Ocasio-Cortez. In high school, she took part in the National Hispanic Institute's Lorenzo de Zavala (LDZ) Youth Legislative Session. She later became the LDZ Secretary of State while she attended Boston University. Ocasio-Cortez had a John F. Lopez Fellowship. ...."

A failed Republican attack on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez offers a lesson for Democrats
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, suddenly a star after her surprise victory in a Democratic primary, is now under attack. Of course she is! She ran on a platform of Medicare for all, free tuition at public universities and an increased minimum wage — and emerged the victor over a New York Democrat with a prominent position in the House leadership.

First, we were warned her avowed socialism and calls for economic justice wouldn’t play in the Midwest. When that didn’t seem to take, John Cardillo, the host of the Newsmax show “America Talks Live” stepped forward on Sunday to brand Ocasio-Cortez a phony. Never mind that hard-luck story about almost losing a home to foreclosure after her father died; never mind the fact that her mom worked as a housekeeper; and never mind the fact Ocasio-Cortez needed student loans to get through college. ....

... The "limousine liberal" attack is long-established in the Republican playbook. Wealthy Republicans born on third base or home plate can claim working-class credit because like, say, President Trump, they enjoy fast food. But Democrats are forever branded as hypocrites for expressing concern about poverty or middle-income woes if they didn’t grow up in a log cabin.

People fall for the hypocrisy card time and time again. George W. Bush understood average folk because he liked to hunt and owned a ranch, but John Kerry, though a Vietnam vet, liked to windsurf, so he didn’t have a clue. Trump, the real estate billionaire son of a real estate multimillionaire dad, who has stiffed numerous small business people and contractors, ripped off financially desperate pensioners via his faux Trump University, and is so greedy he once cashed a check for 13 cents sent to him as a joke, speaks for middle America, but Hillary Clinton, who sometimes wears designer clothes, grew up in suburban Chicago and whose father owned a small business, is a fake. See how this works?

In fact, there is another way Cardillo could have told this story: Ocasio-Cortez’s family did everything “right” in the way we traditionally think they should do it in the United States. Yet they still almost financially cratered when they encountered a bad patch. That’s not uncommon in a country with an inadequate safety net, where 40 percent of the population says they could not come up with $400 in an emergency.

Moreover, while it is true that Westchester County is affluent overall, with a median household income of slightly above $86,000, that’s not the whole story. Its poverty rate is 10 percent. While there are extremely wealthy towns such as Scarsdale and Bronxville, there are also more middle class communities such as Yorktown Heights. Foreclosure, while less common than in other New York suburban counties, is certainly far from unheard of. “There’s this false perception of affluence,” a corporate executive for the Stop & Shop supermarket chain said last year at a government-sponsored forum on hunger in Westchester County. “You might be living next door to someone who is food insecure, and not even know it.”

There is a valuable lesson in Ocasio-Cortez’s response for the many Democrats who melt like the witch in “The Wizard of Oz” when someone points out they enjoy some privilege. In fact, if anything, people such as Ocasio-Cortez, with one foot in the working-class district she was born in and now resides in, and the other in the middle to upper middle-class suburban community of her childhood, is perfectly positioned to understand the strains in the financial lives of Americans. As wealth inequality continues to grow, all but the richest among us will sometimes feel we are falling behind, no matter where we live. No one needs to wear sackcloth when they discuss poverty, even if they are to the manor born.

The Unmanning of Conservatism
In Trump’s view of masculinity, cheap shots replace bravery and hostility replaces honor.

... Cheap shots have replaced bravery. A certain kind of animal cunning has replaced honor. Libertine aggression has replaced fidelity. It’s as if the movie was remade from the bully’s perspective, and the bully became the hero. The man who evaded his generation’s war, who compared the dangers of his sex life to serving in Vietnam, is honored beyond the warrior.

Moreover, the very defense of virtue is now seen by some as fundamentally unmanly. Criticize Trump and you’re “pearl-clutching.” You’re “low-testosterone.” You’re wetting your panties. Sadly, even some veterans have succumbed to this impulse, viewing Trump’s pugilistic style—there’s no critic he’s not willing to (rhetorically) punch in the face—as a continuation rather than a corruption of their previous life of courage.

Trump mocks and exploits women. He shamed and attacked a Gold Star family. He coddled the pathetic tiki-torch brigade in Charlottesville, Virginia. And he does all these things while basking in the approving roars of his testosterone-fueled crowd. ...

Kyrsten Sinema is 'Senator Barbie Doll'? And you wonder why the GOP can't attract women
A Republican Party official laments the 'dumb ass' voters who sent Kyrsten Sinema to the Senate. No wonder the GOP can't attract moderate women.

The Republican Party continues its quest to reach out to moderate women, as one of its leaders over the weekend lamented that "dumb ass people" elected Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.
Or as he called Arizona’s first female senator: "Senator Madonna." This, as opposed to when she was campaigning as "Senator Barbie Doll."
Arizona’s national GOP committeeman, Bruce Ash, is in a lather over the fact that Arizona voters opted to send a Democrat to the Senate for the first time in 30 years.

So naturally, he went right for the important stuff: what she looked like at her swearing-in.
"Sinema looking more like Senator Madonna than the Senator Barbie Doll she advertised when she ran for election in 2018," Bruce Ash posted on Facebook on Saturday. "Her politics and positions will lean further left than the dumb ass people on our side ever imagined when tens of thousands left their ballots blank in the McSally-Sinema election which led the way to her being seated in the U.S. Senate this past week."
By "dumb ass people on our side," I wonder: Was he including the moderate Republicans and GOP-leaning independents who put Sinema into the Senate?
I'm guessing Ash cannot imagine why moderate women would reject the Republican nominee who cozied up to a president who makes many women want to vomit. ...

It's doubtful the woman who has three graduate degrees — a law degree, a master's degree and a Ph.D. — woke up last week, pranced over to her closet and suddenly decided to go all Elle Woods to be sworn in as Arizona's first woman senator.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@Ocasio2018_
Let’s learn about this shall we?
Many have recognized that @FoxNews has crossed a line beyond conservatism and into outright bigotry with the financing of Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingram. Tucker finances the @DailyCaller, which posted fake nudes of me.
Here’s the breakdown:

Why white supremacists love Tucker Carlson
Carlson is training the biggest audience in cable news to view difference as dangerous.
But Carlson’s rise to stardom has also earned him the attention of another group: white supremacists. Richard Spencer celebrated O’Reilly’s replacement, arguing Carlson showed an “open-mindedness” to white supremacist ideas that O’Reilly didn’t. Former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke frequently tweets praise of Tucker’s show. And the white supremacist website Daily Stormer has called Carlson “literally our greatest ally.”

White supremacists’ affection for Carlson has a lot to do with the way he talks about immigrants.

Willst mich "farbig" machen?

Keine Comedy Show kann es besser machen als die Fake-News Media;

Trump’s tweet about “hamberders” illustrates just how effortlessly he lies
Trump boasted about serving the Clemson football team 300 burgers. Since then, the number has grown exponentially.

While not as significant as his lies about the situation at the southern border or his dealings with Russia, an amusing tweet President Donald Trump posted Tuesday morning illustrates just how easily he exaggerates and contradicts himself.

"El cheapo" muss selbst beim angeben ueber ein paar Hamburger noch luegen. Fuer jeden sichtbar und einfach nachpruefbar. :-)))

In the meantime:
Adam Schiff makes specialty hires for reopened Russia probe
Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have wasted no time in beefing up the investigative staff dedicated to continuing the committee's work on its semi-dormant Russia probe, even as the committee's new membership is still taking shape.

The new majority has made offers to half a dozen new staffers, CBS News has learned, and is still searching for six more. Among the latest hires are an expert in corruption and illicit finance and a former prosecutor.
