Welcome to the Fourth Reich: Donald Trump's assault on the rule of law will not end well
Trump and his allies have systematically undermined the rule of law. Soon they can dispense with it entirely

Donald Trump is not an ideologue or a person who possesses a coherent or sophisticated understanding of political theory, history or philosophy. He is all impulse and id, a man gifted in manipulating the fears of ignorant and insecure white people in the service of expanding his power and his fortune. Trump's enforcers, including Attorney General William Barr, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller and the right-wing media machine, are then tasked with transforming the president's most base impulses into public policy.

As we have seen throughout Trump's presidency -- and as we see now in Robert Mueller's report, with its extensive litany of borderline corruption and its numerous instances of blatant obstruction of justice -- the president and his allies disregard the law whenever it is inconvenient, and enforce it with callous cruelty when it serves their goals.

This strategic arbitrariness weakens and delegitimizes the rule of law until, at some point, it can be totally rejected and dispensed with. The Trump administration's ultimate goal is a "permanent state of exception" in the service of racial authoritarianism.

This administration's collective assault on nonwhites -- in particular refugees, migrants and immigrants from Latin America -- as well as Muslims and other groups deemed to be "un-American" is one of the principal areas where its contempt for the law and democracy is most apparent.

FL Man Arrested For Threatening To Murder Several Dems, Including Omar And Tlaib
A man in Broward County, Florida was arrested for threatening to kill two Democratic presidential candidates and the first and only two Muslim women in Congress, the local Miami New Times reported.

Federal authorities announced Friday that a man named John Kless was arrested for leaving voicemails in the Washington, D.C. offices of Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Sen. Corey Booker (D-NJ) earlier this week. In every voicemail, Kless spoke about his hatred for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), whom, in the message he left on Tlaib’s voicemail, he said he wanted to “throw off the Empire State Building.”

Mueller Report Confirms Trump Runs the White House Like It’s the Mafia
Donald Trump is running the American government like a business – or, if we’re being precise, like a criminal enterprise.

The president’s penchant for asking himself, “What would Roy Cohn advise John Gotti to do?” has been clear for some time. Last August, Trump said of the possibility that Michael Cohen would cooperate with Robert Mueller’s investigation, “I know all about flipping. It should almost be illegal.” Around that same time, the president insisted that his White House counsel, Don McGahn, was not a “a John Dean type ‘RAT’” — a reference to President Nixon’s lawyer, who testified (truthfully) about his boss’s attempts to obstruct justice. And Trump has repeatedly argued that the U.S. attorney general’s primary responsibility is to demonstrate unflinching loyalty to the president, as though the federal government was the Mafia and Trump its godfather.

Donald Trump Is Weak and Afraid. The Mueller Report Proves It
We now know for sure what kind of man Donald Trump is. Beyond the tweets, the rallies, the interviews, the debates, the press conferences, the scandals, the best-selling yet unclearly sourced insider books and the unrelenting braggadocio and aggrandizement, a comprehensive read of the Mueller report brings to life the portrait of the man Donald Trump more than anything before it.

It takes the traits we already knew he exhibited — his mendacity, his propensity to surround himself with crooks and grifters, and his single-minded self-focus — and places them in the context of a sweeping narrative about a presidential campaign and presidency devoid of ethics, honor or even strength. The stories paint a picture of a president who is both petty and small, so very small.

Romney says he is ‘sickened’ by Mueller report
Sen. Mitt Romney said Friday that he was “sickened” by President Donald Trump’s actions described in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

In a statement, the Utah Republican said that while it was “good news” there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges related to conspiring with Russia and that there was no conclusion of obstruction of justice, he blasted the White House and Trump campaign officials for their actions. The report, released Thursday, demonstrated repeated efforts by Trump to interfere with Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” Romney said. “I am also appalled that, among other things fellow citizens working in a campaign for president welcomed help from Russia.”

Romney blasted members of the Trump campaign for not informing law enforcement about Russia’s actions and went after former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort for “actively promoting Russian interests in the Ukraine.”

“Reading the report is a sobering revelation of how far we have strayed from the aspirations and principles of the founders,” Romney said.

Screaming Mark Levin Leaves Fox & Friends Speechless with 8 AM Mueller Rant: ‘Ed, You Have No Idea!’
Conservative talk radio host Mark Levin stunned the hosts of Fox & Friends this morning after a particularly unhinged rant, in which Levin screamed and cursed about claims of obstruction against President Donald Trump.

... He then said a “prosecutor” could be “disbarred” for producing the report and said the contents are all based on he-said-she-said allegations.
“‘Well the prosecutor said,'” Levin began, mocking those defending the report. “Well, who gives a damn what the prosecutor said!”

Levin became increasingly angry after Fox News chief national correspondent Ed Henry stepped in to note that Levin is “quoting the White House counsel” and ask, “Doesn’t whether the president told the truth or not matter to you?”
“How do you know this is truthful, Ed?” Levin shot back. “You have no idea!”

After several more minutes of Levin shouting about Hillary Clinton‘s connections to Russia, anti-Trump bias in the “the unfree press,” and insisting it was unnecessary for Mueller to write the report in the first place, Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade finally cut him off after Ainsley Earhardt unsuccessfully tried to end the rant prematurely.

Trump’s Post-Mueller Euphoria Gives Way to Anger and Recrimination
People close to him are worried Trump has begun to stew over news coverage of the report, which has focused on Mueller’s documentation of the president’s efforts to interfere in the investigation and deceive the public about his actions.

Trump issued two tweets on Friday in which he used a profanity to describe some of Mueller’s findings.

People close to him hope he realizes that the report isn’t crippling and the negative stories will largely end by Monday.

Trump and the White House acted indifferent to the report on Thursday.
White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway called Thursday the “best day since he got elected.”
At Palm Beach International Airport Thursday evening, a smiling president greeted supporters, signing “MAGA” ballcaps and telling them “thank you” many times.
But the president’s irritation grew as he watched coverage of the report Friday morning.

Mueller Did His Job. Now It’s Our Turn
Americans know all they need to know when they next go to the polls.

Americans have not seen the full Mueller report. But we have seen more than enough. The warning I delivered at the 2016 Democratic National Convention — Donald Trump is not fit for office — is now clearer than ever.
Despite the report’s substantial redactions, in many cases because related criminal investigations continue, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s careful and detailed narrative is clear. And all citizens, no matter their party, should be deeply troubled.

For all my disputes with Willie I agree with him on one issue: I wish the GOP to become the party of Donald Trump, because it would mean that in the interest of the American people the party would get rid of people like Mitt Romney, the sanctimonious hedge fund manager, Paul Ryan, the "catholic" and ardent Ayn Rand admirer, and other people who blew ist. It would mean that the party would stop listening to folks like Max Boot, the warmonger and bigot who strongly advocated the invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan. Did I forget any country?

The Mueller Report Could Alienate the Voters Republicans Need
The special counsel’s findings validate the concerns of anyone who feared how Donald Trump would wield presidential power.

Beyond all the revelations about Russian entanglements and possible obstruction of justice, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report crystallizes two cardinal rules about governance in Donald Trump’s Washington. One is that Trump will shatter any boundaries of law, morality, or custom in his exercise of presidential power. The second is that Republicans—not only in Congress, but now also in the executive branch—will not restrain any of his excesses. The same holds true for both unwritten rules: They constitute a defining gamble for the GOP in future elections.

Starting with Attorney General William Barr’s staggeringly misleading press conference Thursday about the report, and extending through the blithe dismissal from congressional Republicans of its revelations, the release was yet another demonstration that there may be literally nothing Trump can do that would cause Republicans to break from him. Mueller’s report cataloged dozens of behaviors from Trump and his advisers—from sharing internal campaign polling data and strategy with a suspected agent of a foreign power to repeatedly lying to the public to systematically seeking to thwart investigations—that would have inspired volcanic eruptions of outrage from congressional Republicans and the conservative-media infrastructure if perpetrated by a Democratic president.

The stories paint a picture of a president who is both petty and small, so very small. ...

... It’s difficult to overestimate the extent to which Trump’s appeal to his core supporters is built around the notion that — regardless of his other flaws — he possesses a core strength, a willingness to “fight” and an ability to strike a degree of fear in the hearts of his opponents. I live in the heart of Trump country in Tennessee, and I have consistently heard the same refrain from his most loyal supporters. Trump, as they say, “kicks ass.” He was the ultimate alpha male, a political version of Tony Soprano, a formidable boss who commands an army of loyal consiglieri. Cross him at your peril.

But now, thanks to the Mueller report, his “fights” look more like temper tantrums, and those closest to him — including low men like Lewandowski and far-more-noble men like former White House counsel Donald McGahn — understand that his fury is passing and his directives are unreliable, seemingly transitory and easily forgotten or disregarded.

Moreover, his vaunted personal judgment — an image cultivated through years of careful television production on The Apprentice — has been exposed as well. When one reads Robert Mueller’s account of Trump’s own campaign chair’s extraordinary efforts to maintain an encrypted connection to Ukrainian and Russian oligarchs, it’s plain that Trump was played. Paul Manafort used Trump’s gullibility as a business opportunity.

But that’s the tip of the iceberg. Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn, didn’t just lie to the FBI; he lied to members of his own administration. Trump’s informal adviser, Roger Stone, didn’t have the access to Wikileaks that he publicly boasted about. Trump’s son, son-in-law and campaign chair had the terrible judgement to take a meeting with a Russian in the explicit hope of gaining “dirt” on Hillary Clinton to support an admitted Russian plan to help Trump. None of this is admirable. All of it speaks to Trump’s critical flaws.

The Mueller report stands as a monument to reality. It plainly and clearly makes the case that Donald Trump is not the man his supporters think he is. He’s not bold. He’s afraid. They attributed to him a primitive form of loyalty, where he was good to people who were good to him. Instead, he’d harm his own son to win a single news cycle. His foolish hiring decisions have come back to haunt him time and again.

President Trump is weak — too weak even to commit the acts of obstruction he desired. As the Mueller report stated, Trump’s attempts to influence the investigation “were mostly unsuccessful,” but it’s “largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests.” He’s not strong. He’s not wise. He’s not honorable. And sometimes, when his subordinates disregard is orders, he’s not even truly the president. Regardless of his potential criminality, there is nothing revealed in the report that is admirable — or alpha — about Donald Trump.

From 'total exoneration' to 'total bullsh**': Trump lingers on damning report
By the time President Donald Trump had passed through the prime rib buffet at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday to sit for dinner with family and a top aide, the damning picture Robert Mueller's report painted of his presidency had become clear.

Instead of the "total exoneration" Trump had proclaimed earlier, the report portrayed the President as deceitful and paranoid, encouraging his aides to withhold the truth and cross ethical lines in an attempt to thwart a probe into Russia's interference in US elections -- his "Achilles heel," according to one forthcoming adviser.

Trump Says ‘Game Over,’ but Winter Is Coming
Congress now gets its bite of the apple, and the hidden secrets of Trump’s 2016 campaign and his reign of misrule will continue to come into the light.

The most striking part of the last two days is how Donald Trump and his allies are acting like losers, more aggrieved, bitchy, and petulant than ever. Somehow, “total exoneration” sounds like less like a win and more like a whine.
There are a few fundamental tells in Trumpworld. Trump’s outrage and projection tweets are always a barometer of his real mood, and since the release of the Mueller Report, it’s not exactly “Happy Don, America’s Fun-Lovin’ President.”

His flunky patrol has been testy, too. Rudy Giuliani gave a wild-eyed, feverish mess of an interview to Chris Cuomo. Kellyanne Conway demanded apologies from anyone who dared report the news now that William Barr has certified it all false. Sarah Sanders, confirmed by Robert Mueller to be even more of an egregious liar than was already evident, tried to talk her way out of what her words had talked her into.
The clickservative commentariat gave the same response they would have no matter the outcome, joining the hallelujah chorus of “No Collusion.” On Fox, the bellow-fest of Hannity, Frau Ingraham and the rest were wild-eyed and vengeful, pledging furious retribution to anyone who so much as mentioned the word “Russia” in the last two years.

As I anticipated just before the report’s release, Americans now have confirmation for the history books of the most crucial in-kind donation to an American presidential campaign, ever. We see in black-and-white the degree and depth of the Russian active measures, propaganda, and intelligence warfare efforts that were the secret sauce of Trump’s 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton. It wasn’t just MAGA or the Wall or celebrity bullshitting. An essential element of Trump’s victory was the work of Putin’s Little Helpers.

And we have confirmation that at this critical moment, we had an attorney general who put Donald, not America, first.
What’s clear from his report is that Mueller had the goods on obstruction, but saw no way to make the case given the DOJ’s rules.
We also know, with even more certainty than we already did, that Donald Trump’s cadre of people who lie with ease and dispatch made it hard for Mueller to do his job.

This is a damning portrait of a president with almost no command of his emotions or his government, one with no compunctions about wrapping up his most loyal staffers in his lies and crimes. The portraits of this White House as madhouse from Fire and Fury to Fear to freaking Omarosa are of an administration where no one is in charge, nothing is true, and chaos rules each day. All are borne out in the special counsel’s report. ...

As the Trump world is declaring that the game is over, and the board swept clean, Mueller farmed out 14 elements of his investigation to other U.S. Attorney offices, including 12 we only learned existed with the release of his report. Those will continue to roll out more information, more news, and more convictions in the months to come.

Congress now gets its bite of the apple, and the hidden secrets of Trump’s 2016 campaign and his reign of misrule will continue to come into the light. Mueller’s obstruction section practically screams for Congress to dig deeper, and exercise their right to hold the president accountable for his actions, including—most certainly—abuse of the powers of his office.

Never take a victory lap until you’re sure the race is over.

Two-thirds of Americans think Trump is a criminal and most believe Michael Cohen over president, poll finds
'Michael Cohen, a known liar headed to the big house, has more credibility than the leader of the free world', says pollster

Almost two-thirds of Americans believe Donald Trump committed crimes before he was elected, a poll has found.

Forty-five per cent of US voters think the president has even broken the law since entering the White House, compared to 43 per cent who do not, according to Quinnipiac University’s survey.

Tim Malloy, assistant director of the poll, said the results “deliver a double-barrelled gut punch” to Mr Trump’s integrity.

Bezeichnend auch diese Wortwahl: "On Fox, the bellow-fest of Hannity, Frau Ingraham and the rest were wild-eyed and vengeful, pledging furious retribution to anyone who so much as mentioned the word “Russia” in the last two years." Frau Ingraham - was soll das? Soweit ich weiß, heißt sie Laura mit Vornamen. Soll das eine Anspielung sein, dass sie ein Nazi ist. Wundern würde es mich bei diesem grottigen Niveau nicht.

Woman squares off with couple wearing Nazi regalia at Holocaust memorial
A brave woman told off a couple wearing swastika armbands and giving the Nazi salute at a Holocaust memorial.

On April 11th, Sondra Pierson, 47, a bookkeeper from Rhode Island was meeting friends for drinks at the Parkside Rotisserie & Bar in Providence when she saw a couple across the street wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, swastika armbands, and “White Lives Matter” pins, as first reported by the Providence Journal. Looking closer, Pierson saw swastikas tattoos in place of his eyebrows.
