Trump signs bill reversing Obama rule to ban gun purchases by mentally ill
The Obama administration rule required the Social Security Administration to submit records of mentally disabled people to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, the FBI database used to determine whether someone can buy a firearm under the 1993 Brady Bill.

The rule would have applied to about 75,000 people who were “adjudicated as a mental defective" and who had applied for Social Security benefits, and had a mechanism to notify those affected so they could appeal. But congressional Republicans said the rule could ensnare people who had mental health issues but otherwise were competent to own a gun.

'The Sickness of This Man': Michael Moore Identifies the Most Revolting Moment from Trump's Big Speech
The documentarian isn't buying the president's latest "pivot" for a second.

Guest Moore was asked by host Chris Matthews, “What do you think about his counting the applause minutes that passed over a very poignant moment with the widow, who looked like a wonderful person, in love with her husband? Then he said ‘He’ll be happy up there in heaven with how many minutes of applause he got.’ Isn’t that strange?”

“Ryan Owens, his death came as a result of a dinner Trump had with his son-in-law,” Moore replied. “The widow, that’s why she’s there as sort of an F-you to the people who are criticizing him for this. And this poor women, this widow who has lost her husband is in desperate grief right now.”

“And to use that to put another notch on his belt and what is he thinking about?” Moore continued. “‘My ratings, my record applause. I’m going to get an Emmy for this, most applause for a dead soldier on my watch.’ That is the sickness of this man.”

Four Transgender Murders in a Week "Alarming Trend"
In the past week, four transgender black women have been murdered in the United States — a trend that’s alarming civil rights and anti-violence advocates.

The New York City Anti-Violence Project, which tracks transgender crimes, says there have been seven murders of transgender people so far this year, well above the corresponding number last year.
The Anti-Violence Project documented the homicides of 23 transgender and gender nonconforming people in 2016, the highest ever recorded by the coalition.
“As we face an administration which devalues the safety and rights of transgender people and people of color, we must work tirelessly to support transgender friends, family, and community members,” NCAVP manager Emily Waters said in a statement.

Four Mosques Have Burned In Seven Weeks — Leaving Many Muslims and Advocates Stunned
“The short answer is we haven’t seen anything like this in the past.”

On January 7, the Islamic Center of Lake Travis, in Austin, Texas, which had been under construction, caught on fire. A week later, on January 14, the Islamic Center of Eastside, in Bellevue, Washington, burned.
Two weeks after that, on January 27, several hours after President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, a fire destroyed the Islamic Center of Victoria, in Texas.
Then, this past Friday, February 24, a small blaze broke out at the front entrance of the Daarus Salaam Mosque, near Tampa, Florida.
Authorities have ruled that three of the four fires were caused by arson. An official at the Travis County Fire Marshal told BuzzFeed News that the investigation into the cause of the fire at the Islamic Center of Lake Travis remains open.

Bannon tied to Russian social media trolling operation
Steve Bannon, Trump’s White House strategist, appears to have engaged in “cognitive warfare” with help from Russia.

According to the recent reports, during the presidential campaign a company called Cambridge Analytica was paid millions of dollars by the Trump campaign to microtarget social media outlets using fake accounts and message bots in order to falsely inflate (e.g., spam) Trump’s social media presence.

This is hardly shocking.

However, the big reveal is that Steve Bannon is also board member of Cambridge Analytica and that the company appears to have used Trump’s money to fund and coordinate media dumps with over 1,000 Russian-sponsored internet “trolls” in order to push Trump’s (Bannon’s) narratives.

Ergo – Proof that Trump’s inner circle coordinated with Russian intelligence forces to leverage US-based social media outlets against Americans in order to influence the election and undermine the democratic process.

Fake social media accounts spammed you 5:1 pro-Trump during campaign
On Twitter alone, many thousands of automated "bot" accounts — many of which were Russian — spammed the site with messages 5:1 in favor of Donald Trump before the election. And that is just the beginning.

Donald Trump’s former campaign chief executive and now White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon once declared, “Politics is war.” He appears to have meant it.
Bannon is on the board of a little-known consulting company called Cambridge Analytica, to which the Trump campaign paid millions of dollars during the election. In a groundbreaking report in the Guardian, journalist Carole Cadwalladr drilled deep into the chilling operations of this small company.
Within the foreign policy and national defense arenas, these types of operations are known as psychological operations or “psy-ops,” a form of mass propaganda used to manipulate the emotions of entire populations, and are a type of “cognitive warfare.”

Further, hundreds of websites dedicated solely to pro-Trump messaging operated during the election season. And when FBI Director James Comey briefed the Senate Intelligence Committee recently, he reportedly revealed that Russia employed “close to 1,000 Russian internet trolls, actual people, working trying to manipulate” American voters and information.

In short, Russia and the Trump campaign successfully influenced the perceptions of voters and the results of the election using military-style psy-ops techniques and sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies. But it does not end there.
Now? Cambridge Analytica — on whose board Bannon remains — is in talks to secure two new contracts: one to craft and promote the Trump White House policy messaging and another to help the Trump Organization businesses increase their sales.

Sessions Met With Russian Ambassador Twice During Campaign
Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with Russia's ambassador to the United States twice before the election while he was a senator and also a surrogate for President Donald Trump's campaign.

The Washington Post first broke the news and a spokeswoman for Sessions, Sarah Isgur Flores, acknowledged that Sessions did meet with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The attorney general did not disclose his contact with Kislyak during his confirmation hearing in January.
“I’m not aware of any of those activities,” Sessions said in January when asked what he would do if he discovered that Trump aides were in contact with Russian officials during the campaign. "I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”
Sessions also denied a written question asking if he had discussed the 2016 election with any Russian officials during the campaign, the Washington Post noted.

Trump’s pick for commerce secretary shares a business circle with Putin associates

...Cyprus itself is referenced 530,937 times in the Panama Papers and the Bank of Cyprus is referenced 4,657 times. The Panama Papers confirmed what had long been suspected: that Russian money flows between offshore companies and Cyprus and Switzerland, long known for its secretive banks.

Because of its dependence on Russian clients, the banking system in Cyprus remains a money-laundering concern for the U.S. State Department.
“While significant progress has been made in recent years with the passage of ‘laws’ better regulating the onshore and offshore banking sectors and casinos, these ‘statutes’ are not sufficiently enforced to prevent money laundering,” the State Department said in a report on countries that pose special risks, covering 2015.

As the lead investor in Bank of Cyprus, Ross helped put together the board of directors and tapped as its chairman Josef Ackermann, the retired CEO of Germany’s Deutsche Bank. It was under Ackermann that Deutsche Bank repeatedly ran afoul of U.S. and European regulators.

Trump’s Wiretap Rant Betrays Ignorance of the Law
The president’s conspiratorial Saturday-morning tweetstorm betrayed a shocking lack of understanding of how the American legal system works.

Trump is a political and government novice, and this is not the first time he has put his complete ignorance of governmental laws on show for the world to see via Twitter. It would be in his best interests—and in the best interests of the country—for him to start educating himself on the laws and procedures that apply to the government he now runs.

After all, he did audition for the job.

President Donald Trump is the most powerful cornered animal in the world
For all his inconstancy of character, Donald Trump is a master manipulator. He rose to political prominence by slandering Barack Obama. He rode the birther myth as far as it would go – before brazenly jettisoning it with the insistence that it was all the handiwork of Hillary Clinton.

Now once again, he seeks to buoy his political fortunes by attacking Obama. Perhaps what is so striking about the tweets is not their desperation, but their cynicism. In exclaiming “This is McCarthyism!”, Trump said something deeply revealing – only about himself. McCarthyism was never in the first instance about wiretapping. It was about defaming public officials with charges of treason without a shred of evidence.

Exzellente Analyse..

‘Don’t Worry, I’ll Pull Out’ And Other Trump Lies
Donald Trump is ushering in the Golden Age of Lying.

When we were little, “it wasn’t me” was a good lie. Even as kids, we instinctively understood that you can’t prove a negative. In the absence of an eyewitness, “it wasn’t me” might instill at least the shadow of a doubt in our parents. Even if it didn’t get you totally off the hook, maybe it could reduce the punishment.

The old lies still work, but they are no longer state of the art. Trump is re-writing the book. Given its variety, creativity and complexity, Trump’s mendacity deserves serious study. It could, to paraphrase James Joyce, keep professors busy for hundreds of years.
And it is not only academics who stand to benefit from a better understanding of Trump’s lies. It has practical applications. Generations of law students, for instance, will hone their courtroom skills by studying the Trump Method of lying....

...The beauty of the Whopper is that it takes the truth off the table entirely. There is no truth. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. It doesn’t need an objective basis in fact. It is revealed by a purely subjective test. Whatever “many people believe” to be true is, by definition, true.

And Trump can make many people (his people, at least) believe almost anything just by saying it.
Slick.

Breitbart’s click-hate echo chamber is a threat to Europe. Here’s why
Breitbart is not a news website. Nor is it a media outlet, and its staff are not ordinary journalists. Breitbart is a political project, with a specific political agenda, and staffed by willing propagandists.

As Hope not Hate’s new report, Breitbart: A rightwing plot to shape Europe’s future shows, while ostensibly a rightwing news outlet like any other, Breitbart is in reality part of a transatlantic political movement with a common worldview and coordinated objectives. It doesn’t just report on events: it seeks to make them and (mis-)shape them.

Indeed, Breitbart publishes falsehoods and peddles half-truths. Its unsubstantiated conclusions are drawn from its existing prejudices and published to advance its agenda; Breitbart is a click-hate echo chamber.

Declassified report says Putin ‘ordered’ effort to undermine faith in U.S. election and help Trump
Russia carried out a comprehensive cyber campaign to sabotage the U.S. presidential election, an operation that was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin and ultimately sought to help elect Donald Trump, U.S. intelligence agencies concluded in a remarkably blunt assessment released Friday.

The report depicts Russian interference as unprecedented in scale, saying that Moscow’s role represented “a significant escalation in directness, level of activity, and scope of effort” beyond previous election-related espionage.

The campaign initially sought to undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process, “denigrate” Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and damage her expected presidency. But in time, Russia “developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump” and repeatedly sought to artificially boost his election chances.

Trump Wants To Dismantle The Clean Water Rule. Here’s What’s At Stake.
The drinking water of 117 million people, many threatened species and industries from farming to manufacturing could be at risk.

Calling it a “disaster,” President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week to dismantle the controversial Waters of the United States rule.

Trump instructed the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers to review and reconsider the rule, also known as WOTUS or the Clean Water Rule. But he did not mention that rolling back the provision could put at risk the health of 117 million Americans, the well-being of plant and animal species ― including endangered ones ― and the protection of critical habitats. The economic risks could also be significant.

The story of the Clean Water Rule dates back to a sweltering summer day in 1969 when Ohio’s Cuyahoga River, a tributary of Lake Erie, became so polluted with sewage and industrial waste that it burst into flames.
The disaster sparked an environmental revolution in the U.S. It helped lead to the establishment of the EPA in 1970 and the passage of the Clean Water Act in 1972, which gave the federal agency the authority to limit pollution in “navigable waters.”
The law was a game-changer for America’s large water bodies, including the Cuyahoga, which went from burning to “gleam[ing]” by the late 1980s.
