Painful moment ERG member Owen Paterson is shown comments he made backing soft Brexit in 2015
'Whatever you did or said before, the referendum has been superseded by the absolute promise to deliver the 17.4 million people's decision'

The MP for North Shropshire, who is a member of the hardline European Research Group, was tearing into Theresa May’s Brexit deal saying “it’s actually worse than staying in” the European Union.
But after he argued that the UK should leave all the institutions of the EU on Friday night, which is the revised deadline under the Article 50 process, host Jo Coburn reminded him that he had previously backed a softer form of Brexit than the one he was now claiming was the only one that respected the will of the British people.

She told him: “Owen Paterson. You have moved your position. Let’s listen to what you said nearly four years ago.”

The clip showed the MP saying: “It is not the EU that delivers the famous 3 million jobs so frequently quoted. It is the single market based on the European Economic Area.

When Nigel Farage met Julian Assange
Why did Ukip’s ex-leader want to slip in unnoticed to meet the WikiLeaks chief at the Ecuadorian embassy?

... in a week that saw two major developments on both sides of the Atlantic regarding the respective roles that Assange and Farage played in the US election and the EU referendum – the same week in which a UK general election was announced – it is an attitude that needs urgent re-examination.

Is On Our Side," If You See A Member Of Trump Cabinet, "Push Back",
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/...n_our_side.html
dann ist das demokratisches Engagement, wenn Trump twittert "we will never forget", dann ruft er seine Anhänger zu Gewalt auf und bedroht das Leben einer jungen Muslima.

Groß im Austeilen, miserabel im Einstecken.

We are a band of brothers and native to the soil,
Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil;
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far,
"Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!"

Hurrah! Hurrah! For National rights hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

As long as the Union was faithful to her trust [in fact she never was],
Like friends and like brothers both kind were we and just;
But now, when Brussel's treachery attempts our rights to mar,
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

First proud Britain nobly made the stand,
Then came Italy, who took her by the hand;
Next quickly Spain, Greece and Portuga(l),
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Ye men of valor, gather round the banner of the right,
Denmark and Sweden join us in the fight;
Merkel, our loathed chancellor, and Macron phoneys are,
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

And here's to old Holland, the Old Founding State,
Who against the wannabe empire at length has linked her fate;
Impelled by her example, now other states prepare,
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Then cheer, boys, cheer, raise the joyous shout,
For Poland and Hungary now have both gone out;
And let another rousing cheer for Finland be given,
The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven.

Then here's to our Europe of the Fatherlands, strong are we and brave,
Like patriots of old we'll fight our heritage to save;
And rather than submit to shame, to die we would prefer,
So cheer for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

[Please pardon "my" cheeky poem.]

Brexit killed the politics of left and right and we need a new alternative
IN our not so brave new world, traditional political divisions have been blurred by Brexit. With Labour and the Tories hardly distinguishable on the greatest constitutional crisis of our time – both parties dogged by a raft of resignations and competition from the new Independent Group – old political divides between right and left have all but disappeared.

Because of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s intransigence on Brexit and his adherence to some out-dated student political ideology about the EU, the main opposition party has failed utterly to bring order in the wake of the Tories’ internal implosion and their self-inflicted Brexit burach.
On the contrary, the Left has unintentionally merged with the Right as members of the Conservative government tie themselves up in knots over Brexit with one-sided allegiances to the right-wing European Research Group and the small but disproportionately powerful DUP.

Meanwhile, the voters watch on helplessly as either the Corbynistas or the unholy Brexit trilogy of Michael Gove, Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg wrestle for control of their respective parties. It almost doesn’t matter who gets their way, as post-Brexit our hard-won workers’ and human rights will slip through our fingers.

In this new political landscape the divide is now between short-term and long-term gain; Brexit’s false promise pretends to offer satisfaction now, with problems shelved to be dealt with later, when the decision-makers are far, far away in their sunny, tax-free havens.

Nigel Farage, leader of the new Brexit Party, is the living embodiment of this kind of short-term politics. His few and far between appearances at the European Parliament – where he spouts two minutes of vitriol against the so-called “elite” in Brussels before promptly leaving again to jet back to Rule Britannia – are more about raising Farage’s profile on YouTube and stoking populist unrest than anything near telling the truth about what Brexit will actually mean for his subscribers.

But then chronic job losses, economic catastrophe and never-ending austerity are hardly pithy, attractive soundbites.

Former Yes chief says independence will happen in his lifetime
VETERAN politician Dennis Canavan has said he believes he will see an independent Scotland in his lifetime. A new independence referendum should be held by 2021, according to the former chair of the Yes Campaign.

Canavan said there was a parliamentary mandate for another vote on independence but added he thought Nicola Sturgeon was wise to be cautious in the light of the ongoing certainty over Brexit.
“Some people in her party would like a referendum maybe next week or next month but they are possibly being a bit unrealistic and I think she is wise to see how things go. I don’t see it in the immediate future but certainly before 2021,” he said, adding that he would like to play a role in the campaign.

Asked by presenter Gordon Brewer if he believed Scotland would be independent within the next 10 years, Dennis Canavan said: “I think Scotland will be independent within my lifetime and I am 76 years old now. I am fighting fit and blessed with a good life.”

"Brexit MPs Have Been So Wrong, They'd Have Been Sacked From Any Other Job"
Brexit-backing MPs have been proved so wrong - that in any other line of work they would have been sacked, James O'Brien said.

On the topic of the Brexit delay and referring to prominent Brexiteer MPs, James O'Brien said that it was a "national tragedy" that there were "poor souls who are still believing their nonsense about no-deal Brexit being anything other than catastrophic".

He mentioned Boris Johnson, David Davis and Jacob Rees-Mogg and said that there was no other job where you could get away with "undertaking such an astonishing exercise in simple wrongness".

"Having for a long time viewed the world exclusively through the windows of an official limousine, having lunched and dined heavily for many years (never at his own expense, of course) and having developed a special langue de bois in which streams of grammatically formed verbiage are carefully studded with the words of positive connotation that makes it difficult to argue against him, he has developed the gray, immobile, slab-faced countenance of former members of the Soviet Politburo. Alas, it seem that there are a large number of volunteers - mainly mediocrities, of course - for this kind of life. It seems to them eminently preferable to earning a living." EXCL Theresa May tells Whitehall no-deal Brexit preparation will carry on after backlash
Theresa May has told civil servants that "necessary" Whitehall preparations for a no-deal Brexit will carry on despite the latest delay to Britain's EU departure.

In an email to all officials, seen by PoliticsHome, the Prime Minister says planning for Britain leaving the European Union without an agreement "must continue" - albeit with "sensibly adjusted" timescales signed off by top civil servants.

The move comes just days after the Government was criticised following reports that officials had been told to shelve no-deal planning with "immediate effect" as European leaders agreed to potentially delay the UK's exit until 31 October.
