Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
Just arrived in the United Kingdom.
The only problem is that @CNN is the primary source of news available from the U.S.
After watching it for a short while, I turned it off.
All negative & so much Fake News, very bad for U.S. Big ratings drop. Why doesn’t owner @ATT do something?
3:37 AM - 3 Jun 2019
The petulant child getting confronted with reality. 😂😂😂
Comments to moronsky's wailing and Fox:
Happy Cats@Happy_Cats2017
What he actually means is "Waaaah, Fox news is banned in the UK"
3:50 AM - 3 Jun 2019
Timlagor@Timlagor
It isn't actually banned afaik: just not profitable.
Outrageous that they are allowed to call themselves Fox "News" though -surely that's false advertising when you've won a court case on the grounds that you are an entertainment channel
3:57 AM - 3 Jun 2019
Steve Dawson@SteveDa44400620
Fox News can never survive in a country with an educated, well-informed populace.
The fact they get such high viewership in the US says more about America than it says about Fox News.
5:48 AM - 3 Jun 2019
LiberalBookwormJim@goodoldcatchy
They used to have Fox in the UK but it got censured by Ofcom for lying a bunch of times and then dropped out of the market because no one wanted to watch it.
'Why didn't anyone want to watch it?' I hear you ask.
Well... no one wanted to watch it because it's F*CKING SH*T.
4:40 AM - 3 Jun 2019
Krombopulos Michael Turner@Shockwave75
Here in Canada it can't even be legally called a news channel. It has to be marketed as "entertainment".
5:39 AM - 3 Jun 2019
Becca@Becca_L_M
Same here in the UK. 😁

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
I believe that if people stoped using or subscribing to @ATT, they would be forced to make big changes at @CNN, which is dying in the ratings anyway.
It is so unfair with such bad, Fake News! Why wouldn’t they act.
When the World watches @CNN, it gets a false picture of USA. Sad!
3:50 AM - 3 Jun 2019
Morten Øverbye@morten
It's the picture of USA reflected through tweets like this Americans should worry about.
Never before has any president done so much to undermine independent media.
3:56 AM - 3 Jun 2019
MatthewDicks@MatthewDicks
“Stoped.”
Your inability to write or spell or punctuate with any accuracy or articulation offers the world a false picture of the United States, Donald.
They assume we’re all as stupid and uneducated as you.

Under Trump's Tariffs, The US Lost 20,000 Solar Energy Jobs
2016 was the best year on record for solar energy in the United States. A report from the U.S. Department of Energy at the time showed that solar energy was responsible for a much larger share of employment in the electric power sector (43%) than the whole of the fossil fuel industry combined (22%). With such robust numbers, it seemed as though solar energy, and renewables more broadly, were about to revolutionize the energy sector in the United States and lead the push towards cleaner energy and lower carbon emissions.
However, solar energy jobs have stagnated and dipped for two consecutive years since the Department of Energy’s initial report, with a loss of 10,000 jobs in 2017 followed by a further 8,000 in 2018. Although some job losses were foreseen as a result of project finalizations in several states, the biggest contributing factor was President Trump’s tariffs on solar panels...

Trump Trade Tweets Send Grain Markets Diving to 42-Year Low
Soybean and corn futures slumped after tweets from Donald Trump that threaten an escalation of the U.S.-China trade war, frustrating battered American producers hoping for a quick resolution.
The Bloomberg Grains Subindex Total Return tumbled to the lowest since 1977. The prospect of an end to the crippling tariffs that Beijing imposed on U.S. soy, corn and wheat exports was one of the few positives for American agriculture markets. China’s foreign ministry said that officials were still planning to travel to the U.S. for the next round of trade talks -- but was unable to confirm when amid signs that a delay is now being considered.

“This is where it isn’t a witch hunt—even for the hard core, this is where he turns into just a crooked business guy, and one worth $50m instead of $10bn,” Bannon is quoted as saying
Bannon: Trump Will Fall When People Realize He’s ‘Just Another Scumbag’
Given how badly he came across in Fire and Fury, you might’ve thought Steve Bannon would be wary about contributing to Michael Wolff’s sequel. But extracts from Siege: Trump Under Fire published by The Guardian Wednesday show his antipathy for his former boss hasn’t cooled down just yet. In the book, Bannon predicts Trump’s presidency will fall after investigations into his finances reveal to his supporters that he’s not some incredible self-made billionaire, but a crook.

The Supreme Court on Monday found that a criminal defendant can be sentenced for violating his supervised release, even if the release expires while he is incarcerated ahead of facing new charges.
The justices, divided in the 5-4 decision, ruled against Jason Mont's argument that a district court shouldn't be able to charge him for violating his release because the term had expired at the time of the new sentencing.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg sided with conservative Justices Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh in the majority. Justice Neil Gorsuch joined liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan in opposing the decision.

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that an Obama-era rule change on how Medicare reimbursements to hospitals are made should be removed because officials did not follow the proper notice and comment regulations in implementing the formula.
The court ruled 7-1 to vacate the rule, with Justice Neil Gorsuch writing the majority opinion. Justice Stephen Breyer was the sole dissenting member of the court, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the newest member of the court, was not involved in the case.

What Connects Meghan Markle to a Philosopher of Totalitarianism? Donald Trump’s Lies.
... “The ideal subject of totalitarian rule,” wrote Arendt in her 1951 classic “The Origins of Totalitarianism,” “is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist.” In a later interview, she went further: “If everybody always lies to you, the consequence is not that you believe the lies, but rather that nobody believes anything any longer. And with such a people you can then do what you please.” ...
“The brazenness and shamelessness of his lying is not just a by-product of an effort to mislead voters that Trump is merely taking to new levels,” argues Sargent. “Rather, the brazenness and shamelessness of the lying is central to his broader project of declaring for himself the power to say what reality is.”

The US posted a $234 billion budget deficit last month, the biggest one-month deficit in history
The news comes as concerns about the debt have piled up in recent months. The budget deficit for the full 2018 fiscal year hit $779 billion, the highest since 2012. The US also issued just over $1.3 trillion in new debt during the 2018 calendar year, the most for any calendar year since 2010.
Based on projections from the Congressional Budget Office, it won't get any better with the deficit expected to top $1 trillion by fiscal year 2022. Even the president's own budget estimated that the deficit will top $1 trillion next fiscal year.

S&P 500 Has Performed Far Worse Under Trump Than Under Obama
So much for having the “best” stock market returns.
During his first two years in office, Donald Trump regularly pointed to the stock market as proof of his leadership’s effectiveness. Experts may have shaken their heads, saying that stock values aren’t an accurate measure of the country’s economic performance. But they are popular with voters, who check their 401(k) investments, and, thus, with politicians. Particularly since “presidents can have a major impact on the financial markets in the short run,” said David Kass, professor of finance at the University of Maryland.
And getting short-term response in stocks is much easier than long-term fundamental economic gains that can take years to bear fruit. If there’s an election coming up, juicing the markets are something both major parties like to do.
When it comes to talking himself up, Trump in particular has compared himself to Barack Obama. So, how do the two presidents measure up in terms of growth in major indexes, measured between their inauguration and May 31 of their third year in office?
The short answer is that Trump has quite a way to go. Under Obama, the S&P 500 grew by 56.4%. The Dow Jones Industrials Average was up 50.6% and the Nasdaq, 92.9%.
The numbers under Trump were 21.4% for the S&P 500, 25.2% for the Dow, and 34.2% for Nasdaq.

AT&T stock rises and company shrugs after Trump suggests a boycott of the company
President Trump's years-long effort to punish CNN for its news coverage took a new, yet wholly unsurprising turn on Monday when he suggested a boycott of CNN's parent company AT&T.
The idea, according to Trump's tweets, is that if enough people cancelled their AT&T subscriptions, "they would be forced to make big changes at CNN."
The reaction from AT&T (TBB)amounted to a shrug. The company declined to comment on Trump's provocation. The stock surged in early trading and closed up 1.67% for the day.

Sadiq Khan: Trump tweets worthy of an 11-year-old
London mayor says honor of a state visit risks condoning Trump’s actions.
Khan told the BBC he had been in meetings when the tweets were posted but when he was told about them he did not believe they were real. "First I thought it was a joke, the sort of thing an 11-year-old would do," he said.
The mayor said he loved America and that it was vital to have good relations with the U.K.'s "closest ally." But he repeated his view that the honor of a state visit is not appropriate for the current president.
"We have to be very careful about giving the impression that we condone some of the things that [Trump] has been associated with," Khan said, before listing separating immigrant children from their parents at the Mexico border; attacking LGBT+ rights; pulling out of the Paris climate accord; and eroding the reproductive rights of women.

Trump Bump Fades as Farm Sentiment Drops to Pre-Election Levels
American farmer sentiment has plunged to levels not seen since October 2016, the month before Donald Trump’s election victory, as the U.S.-China trade war drags on.
The Purdue University/CME Group’s agricultural sentiment index fell to 101 points in May from 115 in April. The gauge is based on a survey of 400 agricultural producers. The declines “effectively erased all of the large improvement in farmer sentiment that took place following the November 2016 election,” the researchers said in a statement Tuesday.
The index, a measure of perspectives on current and future economic conditions, plummeted a fourth straight month. China’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. farm goods have dented agriculture incomes and disrupted global trade flows. Meanwhile, a torrent of bad weather so far this year has devastated Midwest croplands and delayed planting.

Campaign Money Helping Make Up For Tenant Shortage At Trump Tower
With commercial tenants fleeing his Trump Tower, President Donald Trump continues to spend $37,500 a month of campaign money for office space there — with some of that cash destined for his own wallet ― even as thousands of square feet go unused at a newly opened office in northern Virginia.
No more than “four or five” campaign staffers work at Trump’s Manhattan base, according to an informal adviser close to the White House, where the campaign rents a few thousand square feet as its “headquarters.” The per-square-foot cost is likely at least triple what the Republican National Committee pays for the much larger space it shares with the campaign in Arlington, according to a HuffPost analysis.
