Evidence Russia tipped Election for Trump 'staggering', says former U.S. Intel Chief James Clapper
In his new memoir, Facts and Fears: Hard Truths From a Life in Intelligence, Clapper describes evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin swayed the election in a bid to secure Trump's election as “staggering.”

“Of course, the Russian efforts affected the outcome," writes Clapper, as cited in a Washington Post review.
"Surprising even themselves, they swung the election to a Trump win. To conclude otherwise stretches logic, common sense and credulity to the breaking point. Less than eighty thousand votes in three key states swung the election. I have no doubt that more votes than that were influenced by this massive effort by the Russians.”

Describing a report on Russian interference presented by the intelligence community to president-elect Trump in January 2017, Clapper writes, “I remember just how staggering the assessment felt the first time I read it through from start to finish, and just how specific our conclusions and evidence were.”

In the intelligence chief's view, “We showed unambiguously that Putin had ordered the campaign to influence the election…and how the entire operation had begun with attempts to undermine U.S. democracy and demean Secretary Clinton, then shifted to promoting Mr. Trump when Russia assessed he was a viable candidate who would serve their strategic goals.”

Clapper warns of the threat posed by Trump's dismissal of inconvenient facts as “fake news.”
“I don't believe our democracy can function for long on lies, particularly when inconvenient and difficult facts spoken by the practitioners of truth are dismissed as ‘fake news,' ” Clapper writes. "I know that the Intelligence Community cannot serve our nation if facts are negotiable.”

Clapper does not go so far as to state that Trump colluded with Russia, but he describes the president's attitude in face of evidence of Russian interference as one of “aggressive indifference."

What Connects Meghan Markle to a Philosopher of Totalitarianism? Donald Trump’s Lies.

... “The ideal subject of totalitarian rule,” wrote Arendt in her 1951 classic “The Origins of Totalitarianism,” “is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist.” In a later interview, she went further: “If everybody always lies to you, the consequence is not that you believe the lies, but rather that nobody believes anything any longer. And with such a people you can then do what you please.” ...

“The brazenness and shamelessness of his lying is not just a by-product of an effort to mislead voters that Trump is merely taking to new levels,” argues Sargent. “Rather, the brazenness and shamelessness of the lying is central to his broader project of declaring for himself the power to say what reality is.”

"McAleenan said that in the first few days of a program to conduct DNA tests the department identified "24 people that were fraudulently claiming to be parents of a child they were crossing with."

"How many more cases are out there," the DHS chief added.

McAleenan also noted that in the first 4 weeks his team has also identified 180 cases of false paternal claims under different identification methods, 360 fraudulent documents, and over 300 prosecutions of people purporting to be parents. "

Trump's latest speech compared to '1984': 'What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening'
'Just stick with us, don’t believe the c**p you see from these people, the fake news...'

Donald Trump’s recent speech to supporters in Kansas has been compared to the totalitarian rhetoric similar to George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel, 1984.

The US president addressed supporters at a Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Kansas City on 24 July, requesting them to not listen to what they read or saw in the news.
“Just stick with us, don’t believe the crap you see from these people, the fake news,” Mr Trump said as the crowd erupted in boos. He later added: “Just remember, what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening…”

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. "
Orwell "1984"

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth."
Orwell "1984"

"Truth isn’t truth"

I study liars. I've never seen one like Donald Trump.
I spent the first two decades of my career as a social scientist studying liars and their lies. I thought I had developed a sense of what to expect from them. Then along came President Donald Trump.
His lies are both more frequent and more malicious than ordinary people's.

Kremlin Says Venezuela Pullout Trump Tweeted About Didn't Happen
The Kremlin denied President Donald Trump‘s claim that Russia told the U.S. it was withdrawing most of its military advisers from Venezuela.

“There were no official messages from the Russian side on this score and nor could there be any,” President Vladimir Putin‘s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on a conference call Tuesday. “There are specialists there who are maintaining” military equipment in Venezuela, Peskov said.

Christian author: Thanks to Trump creating ‘lavish abundance,’ Christians must rethink the End Times
According to Christian author, self-proclaimed prophet, and conspiracy theorist Dave Hayes, President Trump is so successful as a commander in chief that he may be rewriting biblical prophecy.

Hayes, also known as the “Praying Medic,” hosted a livestream on Periscope this Saturday where he said that Christians will have to “look again” at their understanding of the End Times.
“People are still living from a view is eschatology during those times of [World War I and II],” Hayes said in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch.

According to Hayes, humanity has been bogged down by past interpretations of scripture that describe world events getting worse as Christ’s return nears. But thanks to Trump, that’s no longer the case.
“Now we have Trump,” he declared.
“If Trump manages to get rid of the deep state, if Trump manages to get rid of the Rothschilds, George Soros, and all of the people that are funding wars, then if Trump manages to destroy this globalist agenda, he is going to destroy the New World Order.”

“The rule of the banksters is coming to an end, the deep state is being gutted, and I believe Trump is going to defund all of them, destroy the New World Order, destroy the globalist agenda and he is going to be very successful in destroying and eliminating all that stuff that has been built over the last 100 years,” he continued.

Hayes then told his viewers that they’re going to have to rethink their understanding of the End Times in light of Trump’s overwhelming successes.
“Trump’s presidency and what he is doing on a geo-political scale should make every one of you go back to the Bible and look again at your understanding of the End Times, the Last Days,” he said.

Trump says GOP would be ‘foolish’ to block Mexico tariffs
President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that fellow Republicans would be “foolish” to block the tariffs he’s threatening on Mexican imports, but GOP senators fearing a new trade war were considering action and grilling his administration lawyers behind closed doors.

Republicans are deeply concerned that Trump’s proposed 5% tariffs on all imports from Mexico would spike U.S. consumers’ costs , harm the economy and imperil a major pending US-Mexico-Canada trade deal. Mexico is concerned as well, and top officials are in Washington working to stave off the threatened trade taxes.

Poor Americans likely to be hit hardest by new US tariffs
The biggest victims of President Donald Trump’s tariffs won’t necessarily be Mexicans or Chinese or young urbanites who will have to pay more for avocado toast.

The people likely to pay the steepest price for Trump’s attempts to bend Mexico and China to his will are poor Americans, who already live close to the financial edge and could have to pay more for everyday purchases.

For many low-income households, tariffs “are a tax on their consumption, and by raising the cost of their consumption, they will likely have to cut back,” said Jay Shambaugh, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Massive protests make Trump’s second visit to the U.K. somehow even more awkward than his first

Hundreds of thousands of protesters descended on central London Tuesday, during President Donald Trump’s second state visit to the United Kingdom.

When asked about the protests and insults at a Tuesday press conference with Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump called the protests “fake news.”
“I didn’t see the protesters until just a little while ago and it was a very, very small group of people put in for political reasons. So it was fake news,” said Trump.

Breaking News:

Vor der Zentrale des CNN-Gebäudes sind Feuerwehrautos vorgefahren und unzählige Sprungtücher und Rettungsmatrazen aufgestellt:

"A majority of Americans believe President Trump will be reelected next year, according to a CNN poll released Wednesday.

The survey, conducted by SSRS from May 28 to May 31, shows that 54 percent of respondents say Trump will win a second term in office, while 41 percent say he will be defeated in 2020.

The figures are a near reversal from a similar CNN poll conducted in March 2018, when 40 percent of respondents predicted he would be reelected and 54 percent said he wouldn't.

The most recent poll shows Trump scoring his highest marks on his handling of the economy, with 52 percent approving and 70 percent saying the economy is in good shape. "

GOP Chairwoman Claims D-Day Anniversary Should Be About ‘Celebrating Our President’
Ronna McDaniel made the comment on Fox Business while griping about the media coverage of Trump’s European trip.

Apparently, the “D” in D-Day stands for “Donald Trump,” at least according to Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.
The GOP chair appeared on Fox Business on Wednesday to basically moan about the way the media has covered the president’s trip to Europe.

She then suggested that Trump should be a main focus of the 75th-anniversary commemoration of D-Day.
“We are celebrating the anniversary, 75 years of D-Day,” McDaniel said. “This is the time where we should be celebrating our president, the great achievements of America, and I don’t think the American people like the constant negativity.”

European leaders give Trump a history lesson
European leaders are subjecting President Donald Trump to a crash course in history, hoping to use D-Day commemorations to shake his skepticism about alliances that have kept global peace for three-quarters of a century.

The President saw for himself on Thursday the human price paid by thousands of Americans buried under poignant, regimented rows of white gravestones overlooking the beaches they stormed under curtains of Nazi fire on June 6, 1944.
Their sacrifice in the Normandy landings helped purchase 75 years of European freedom and prosperity, and enshrined America as the leading world power and guarantor of Western democracy.

During the President's three days in Britain built around D-Day observances, it became clear that his interlocutors hope he will gain a new appreciation for how American engagement and common sacrifice built a postwar age that benefited millions but is now under threat from outside forces -- and incredibly, from the President of the United States himself.

Queen Elizabeth II, British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have all stressed the need to maintain alliances increasingly under pressure from internal populist forces and rising competition in the East. ....

There are risks to Europe's tendency to school Trump, since he is not one to take lectures kindly and cannot bear the perception that his gut-led leadership is being managed. For proof, consider the tense relations he had with former Cabinet members such as James Mattis and Rex Tillerson.
There's also little evidence that the flattery piled on Trump by other world leaders is especially effective in getting him to shed idiosyncratic and deeply held beliefs -- even those that confound facts and logic.

During a brief exchange before his meeting with Varadkar at Shannon Airport, near Ireland's west coast, Trump said to Varadkar: "Probably you'll ask me about Brexit because I just left some very good people who are very involved with Brexit."

"I think it will all work out very well, and also for you with your wall, your border," Trump added before drawing parallels with the U.S. southern border with Mexico. "We have a border situation in the United States, and you have one over here. But I hear it's going to work out very well here."

Varadkar replied, "I think one thing we want to avoid, of course, is a wall or border between us."

GOP fractures over Trump’s tariffs
The divide risks embarrassing the president and his party.

President Donald Trump’s threats to impose blunt new tariffs on Mexico has unleashed a circular firing squad among Republicans in Congress.

A bloc of Senate Republicans is threatening to put up a veto-proof majority to block the tariffs if Trump moves forward by using his national emergency powers. But most House Republicans and another faction of GOP senators say their colleagues are making a mistake by undercutting the president on one of his signature issues.

The public split not only risks embarrassing the president and his party. It undercuts the shared goal Republicans have in avoiding the tariffs that Trump seems eager to deploy.

At issue is a conflict over strategy. Some GOP lawmakers hope to pressure Trump with the prospect of a rebellion that far exceeds the dozen defections on his national emergency declaration this winter, while others argue for a quieter persuasion campaign.

World Bank: Global Investment At Historical Lows Due To Trump’s Tariffs
"Of particular concern is a slowdown in global trade growth to the lowest level since the financial crisis ten years ago and a tumble in business confidence," according to the report.

Noting that several factors are involved, the World Bank report warned that "a further escalation of trade disputes between the world's largest economies, renewed financial turmoil in emerging and developing economies, or a more abrupt deceleration of economic growth among major economies than is currently envisioned" could imperil global economic growth.
